Working in concert with a new state-of-the-art digital operating room at UPH Hospital at Kino Campus, the AZISM is the most modern and sophisticated center of its type in Arizona.
Renowned Physicians AZISM founders Robert Hunter, MD and William Grana, MD are esteemed orthopaedic surgeons specializing in injuries that routinely hamper athletes and the physically active. They believe in maintaining open communication between patients and their health care team during and after treatment.
Robert E. Hunter, MD Dr. Hunter has served as a team physician for the U.S. Men's Alpine Ski Team since 1992 and has been board certified in orthopaedic surgery since 1981. He was president of the Foundation for Sports Medicine Education and Research. Dr. Hunter earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Hunter is also a Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the UA College of Medicine.
William A. Grana, MD, MPH Dr. Grana has been a U.S. medical staff member at numerous distinguished athletic events throughout his career. He was a member of the United States Olympic Commmittee's medical staff at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, head physician for the U.S. team at the 1987 Pan American Games and a physician member of the 1985 U.S. Olympic Committee's Winter World University Games in Italy. Dr. Grana is now a consultant to the Chicago White Sox and a physician for the team during Spring Training. He's also an orthopaedic consultant for The University of Arizona athletic department.
Dr. Grana received his medical degree from Harvard University in 1968 and earned a masters degree in public health administration and policy from the University of Oklahoma in 1995.
Directions The AZISM is located on the University Physicians Hospital campus at 2800 E. Ajo Way. The AZISM building is accessible from Bentley Ave., which is just east of the Hospital and outpatient clinics building.
